Müller: Mbappé is the most spectacular player for me right now. But if our plan works out, he won’t be much fun
Everyone is waiting to see how Wednesday’s clash between Bayern Munich and PSG will turn out. The visitors are relying mainly on the individual quality of Messi and Mbappé, while the Germans are betting more on a team approach. The Parisians went into the opening game with the Messi – Neymar pairing at the tip of the attack and it didn’t work at all. They were virtually cut off from the rest of the team and didn’t come up with anything dangerous.
Bayern were 1-0 up and comfortably in control of the lead. However, the game changed completely when Kylian Mbappé stepped onto the pitch. PSG’s best player this season was out injured, so he was not available from the start.
However, when the 24-year-old Frenchman came on in the second half, things started to happen. PSG started to have chances thanks to Mbappé and his speed, and eventually he also equalised himself to make it 1-1. However, the goal was disallowed by VAR due to a close offside by Mendes.
Thomas Müller knows that Mbappé is the most dangerous PSG player at the moment. At the press conference, he also did not spare any praise.
“For me, Kylian (Mbappé) is clearly the most spectacular player right now. His explosiveness combined with the right decisions in the penalty area is lethal. Plus, as a striker, he goes into the spaces where he’s supposed to, so it’s not just about beauty, he’s also effective. And I like that,” Müller praised his evening opponent.
“But it’s no secret, the whole world likes to watch him. But we won’t be watching him do his job tonight. If our plan works, he won’t have a very fun night,” the German worker added.
Bayern brought home a one-goal lead from Paris, which they will need to maintain. It won’t be easy, but it will be interesting to see how the clash of individuality with a well-paced team concept of play plays out.
