Casillas leaned into Piqué: Referee for Real? There hasn’t been a penalty kick against Barcelona in two years!
Real Madrid and Barcelona are the two biggest clubs not only in Spain, but probably in the whole world. There is a huge rivalry between the two camps and they are constantly sniping at each other to see who is helped more by the referee. And there are arguments between the players as well.
Real Madrid and Barcelona are the two biggest clubs not only in Spain, but probably in the whole world. There is a huge rivalry between the two camps and they are constantly sniping at each other to see who is helped more by the referee. And there are arguments between the players as well.
We have seen quite a few missteps in favour of both Real Madrid and Barcelona by referees. However, Los Blancos fans have now gotten their arguments in full force.
Barcelona are under investigation for paying the vice-president of the Referees’ Commission. Enríguez Negreira accepted over €7 million, which neither he nor the club deny. However, both sides claim it was paid advice on how players should behave towards referees.
This scandal is the number one scandal in Spain at the moment and is being discussed at every possible level.
The “Negreira” issue has also come to the fore in the Kings League. Indoor football among influencers, founded by former Barcelona captain Gerard Piqué, is very popular and the presidents of their teams meet regularly to discuss all sorts of things.
The president of one of the teams is the former captain of Real Madrid and Spain, Iker Casillas. And when the two former leaders of the El Clásico teams got together, it was logical that the hot topic of the moment had to be discussed.
Piqué vs Casillas
“I’ll tell you one thing: If we look at UEFA and the Champions League, there, Real Madrid have always been helped… But everywhere,” Piqué began sharply.
But Casillas didn’t like that at all. “You should absolutely keep quiet about this. You are responsible for one of the biggest upsets in football history,” Casillas alluded to Barcelona’s match with Chelsea, which was biased in favour of the Catalans.
Piqué wanted to put the whole thing on both teams with the help of the referees. ” Barcelona and Real Madrid have always had the most help from the referees…,” Piqué said when Casillas interrupted him.
“Favoured? Wait a minute. For a team to not get a single penalty against one team for 2 years and not get a single red card is unbelievable in football. What happened, with your Tiki-taka the opponents didn’t get into your penalty area or what? Because we were getting there,” one of the best goalkeepers in history objected sharply.
He didn’t make this fact up, in fact not a single penalty was whistled against Barcelona in La Liga in 2016-2018 and no player was sent off. This streak lasted an incredible 78 matches. And now that it has come to light that it was during this period that Barcelona paid big money to the vice-president of the Referees’ Commission, everything looks a little suspicious.
