Barcelona’s problems are taking on new dimensions. This week, the scandal surrounding the club’s investigation into disclosed payments to the former director of the Technical Referees Commission came to light.
If the Catalan big club’s misconduct is proven, the club could face relegation in the worst case scenario. But that’s not all, Barcelona may have another problem.
In September, the biggest club from the sun-drenched Spanish port announced hot transfer news. There was an interesting player swap between Barcelona and Chelsea of London.
While heading towards the English capital, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who kicked for the red and blue jersey just six months after transferring from Arsenal. In the opposite direction, Spanish left back Marcos Alonso has travelled.
And it was Alonso’s move that his former club Union Adarve attacked , according to Spanish daily AS. The team from the third Spanish league claims that due to the low amounts for the transfer of both players, it is a player swap and not individual transfers.
Indeed, if it were as the Spanish midget claims, Adarve should receive financial compensation from Barcelona.
This is because of the terms in FIFA’s statutes, in which teams that nurtured football talent in the early stages of their careers are financially rewarded for their efforts if it is an official player swap.
Alonso may have worked in Real Madrid’s youth structures, but it was from Adarve that he came to the Spanish capital. In fact, the club refuses to believe that the agreements regarding the transfers in question were negotiated independently, and so is referring the case to the FIFA authorities for investigation.
If it is proven that Barcelona did indeed violate the said regulations put in place by world football’s governing body, it could face sanctions. Which, at a time of its financial instability, would certainly not be a pleasant reality.
