The game between Rangers and Partick Thistle had a lot of momentum from the opening minute. The visitors, although only playing in the second highest domestic competition, are the third biggest team from Glasgow. And a city derby in the British Isles is always worth it!
The outsider took the lead in the 35th minute thanks to a penalty from Kevin Holt, with Croatian international Antonio Colak equalising in the 50th minute.
Rangers striker Malik Tillman ended up on the ground after one of the duels and his teammates sent the ball into the box to stop play. After receiving treatment, the opposition took the ball in and Patrick stopper Kevin Holt planned to return the ball to the opposition with a long kick.
However, he mishandled it, which Tillman inexplicably took advantage of and headed towards the opposition goal. He rounded the goalkeeper, scored and Ibrox Park erupted with joy. But the visiting players exploded as well, immediately knocking the young German to the ground.
When the emotions calmed down a bit, Rangers let the opponents equalise after the players and coach Michael Beale agreed.
Scott Tiffoney made his way through to Allan McGregor, who made fun of the blond winger for a moment, but eventually let him deliver the ball into the net.
The game was eventually decided in the 86th minute by a header from home defender James Sands, and ensured Rangers progressed to the quarter-finals of the cup. Ironically, Sands stepped on Tillman while celebrating the goal, which brought back his unfair behaviour sooner than he probably knew.
Whatever Tillman’s behaviour as an individual, the reaction of the coach and the rest of the team has been lauded in the British media.
