Arsenal have not done well in the last two rounds. After losing at Everton, they drew at home to Brentford. Nevertheless, they remain first and have a three-point lead over their Wednesday opponents with one game to spare.
Manchester City managed to spark a week-old defeat by Tottenham, beating Pep Guardiola’s charges Aston Villa 3-1 at home. They have to watch their backs along with the top of the table, they are only two points ahead of their city rivals United with a game to spare.
Arsenal’s key figures
The twenty-one-year-old Bukayo Saka, author of eight goals and eight assists, is still shining for the home side. The match will be a big test for captain Martin Odegaard, he has made eight goals and six assists so far.
Key Manchester players
The visitors are praying in the healing of the injury of Norwegian forward Erling Haaland, scorer of 31 goals and three assists. Already fit is Kevin de Bruyne, the Belgian midfielder has netted three goals and added a whopping 17 assists.
The Gunners are backed by a solid defence. Although it hasn’t been flawless in the last three games, with 18 goals conceded, it is the best in the league after Newcastle. Arsenal have scored more than once in only one of their last seven games.
But against the Citizens it will be a real baptism of fire. They have the competition’s sovereign best attack with 56 shots (second best Arsenal have scored 46 times), plus they have scored three or more goals in three of their last five games.
Considering the sagging confidence of the Gunners’ young squad, Manchester City’s experience in similar big games and the Haaland factor, I think the Citizens will rob the Emirates and catch them in the points table.
