Karolína Muchová, who is planning to return to the wider world top, convinced with her opening performance. She is currently ranked 224th in the world rankings due to injuries and several breaks this year. At the opening match in Tallinn, Karolina swept away the French qualifier Ponchetova 6: 0 and 6: 2.
On the other hand, another qualifier, Linda Noskova, will play the second round. Still only 17 years old, the Czech defeated Parry, also from France. She had to turn the match around after losing the first set, but in the end she was happy to advance after sets 6: 2, 3: 6 and 4: 6.
Barbora Krejcikova is still looking for her best form from the past years. Before the tournament, she herself claimed that now her arm is really in 100% condition and she is ready. In the first round, Barbra looked convincing. After a good performance she beat Australian Tomljanovic 6::1 and 7::6.
The last Czech player, Tereza Martincova, also managed to enter the tournament. She played against the lucky qualification loser, Sweden’s Bjorklund. The first set was decided by a tiebreak with 6::8 for Martincová. The second set was also won by the Czech 6: 3.
In the second round Karolína Muchová will face the Swiss Golubic. Krejcikova will play Kostyukova from Ukraine. Martincova will play the better of Kontaveit-Wang. The Estonian is the home and seeded number one, she should be the one. The winner of the Wang-Haddad Maia match will face Linda Noskova.
