34. the Premier League round indicated how the end of the season would unfold. The teams fighting for the title didn’t lose points, Arsenal improved the most in their quest for the Champions League and Burnley came closer to salvation.

The fight for the title

Manchester City picked up the mandatory three points on Saturday. The Citizens beat Watford 5-1 at home, thanks to four goals from Gabriel Jesus, and second-placed Liverpool were four points clear.

Liverpool knew they had to win the derby with Everton. The first half did not offer a goal, but after the change of sides Andrew Robertson and Divock Origi came through to give the favourites a 2: 0 win.

The fight for the Champions League

Arsenal have had an excellent week. After Wednesday’s win over Chelsea, they beat Manchester United 3-1 in a direct battle for fourth place. Cristiano Ronaldo also played for the visitors, but his goal at 1: 2 did not make any difference.

The Gunners were definitely in fourth place after Tottenham drew with Brentford (0: 0). With five games to go, Arsenal have a two-point lead on Spurs, and even a six-point lead on sixth-placed Manchester United.

The fight for salvation

Two of this year’s newcomers have taken another step towards relegation. The aforementioned Watford fell at the Etihad Stadium, the last Norwich lost 0:3 to Newcastle. They are seven and eight points behind the seventeenth place respectively.

Burnley, on the other hand, got out of the relegation zone with a 1:0 win over Wolverhampton, scored by Matej Vydra. Eighteenth-placed Everton are two points behind and have one game in hand. A real shame considering the quality of the Toffees squad.
