3. grand Slam of the season had already the 3rd round on its schedule. Players battled to reach the eighth round to play at Wimbledon during the second week. This time the favourites did not falter and managed their matches successfully. The 3 Czech hopefuls continue in the tournament and will face battles for the quarter-finals. Who are they?

Novak Djokovic is going through the tournament with ease. The Serb beat Kudla 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 and looks like he will be hard to beat.

The big draw was the match between Murray and Shapovalov. However, the match ended up being clearer than expected. The experienced Brit was not helped by the home atmosphere and suffered a debacle from his younger opponent. The Canadian clearly defeated him 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 to advance to the next round. Murray has hit his ceiling. He’s not up to the best anymore.

A very tough match awaited Roger Federer. He’s up against Britain’s Norrie. A dangerous player who is thriving and has a lot of potential. The Swiss finally got through this battle. He beat Norrie 6-4, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 to guarantee himself a place in the eight finals.

One big favourite, however, had a tough time. And that was Russia’s Medvedev. He was facing the dangerous Cilic. The Croatian outsider won the first two sets and the world No. 2 was on the verge of elimination. But the Russian didn’t give up and managed to turn the match around. Medvedev won 6-7, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, 6-2 after a fight and he didn’t falter either.

In the women’s singles, the favoured tennis players also did well. Swiatekova destroyed Begu 6-1, 6-0 and decided her advancement with lightning speed.

Sabalenka had a similarly fast match. The Belarusian gave the talented Osorio-Serrano no chance. She beat the Colombian 6-0, 6-3 and in 75 minutes it was done.

The biggest surprise of the 3rd round was the home team’s Raducanu. This British player is writing a great story at this Grand Slam. 338. the world number one unexpectedly knocked out Vondrousova. And now this 18-year-old talent was no match for Cirstea. Raducanu beat her 6-3, 7-5 and her phenomenal run continues.

The Czechs have done well, too. In the 3rd round, it was a Czech derby between Pliskova and Martinsova. Pliskova again played very solid and her serve helped her a lot. She fulfilled her role as the favourite and beat Martincova 6-3, 6-3.

When Muchova is healthy, she’s doing great. And Wimbledon is proof of that once again. The Czech has managed to heal her injured abdominal muscle and has started to get into great shape. She had a score to settle with Russia’s Pavlyuchenkova, having lost to her recently. Muchova was able to take advantage of the perfect time for revenge. In an evenly matched match, she managed to beat the Russian 7-5, 6-3 and continues to shine at her favourite Grand Slam.

Barbora Krejcikova had the toughest match ahead of her. Both mentally and physically. The Czech was caught by women’s problems and her performance showed it. She was weakened, and she was also in pain.

But Krejcikova once again showed why she became a Grand Slam champion. She didn’t give up, and in the end, success did come. She beat Sevastova 7-6, 3-6 7-5 in a tremendous battle and can be rightly proud of herself. She’s already accomplished.

The last match on Centre Court was between Siniakova and Barty. The Czech was facing perhaps her toughest possible opponent. If she won, she would face her teammate Krejcikova in the eighth round.

But that would not happen. Siniakova kept up with the big favourite, but it wasn’t enough. The Australian beat her 6-3, 7-5 and will face Krejcikova in the next round. Siniakova will have to wait for her Grand Slam singles success.
