Which Czechs are continuing their tournament success?
2. the round went well for the favourites. Federer, Djokovic, Medvedev, Berretini and Rublev advanced without losing a set.
Andy Murray also did well. But the British legend didn’t have it easy. It was quite a battle with Germany’s Otto. The outsider even led 2-1 in sets. But Murray showed that he is still capable of big turns and managed to turn the match in his favour.
He eventually defeated his opponent 6-3, 4-6, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 to reach the 3rd round. He showed that he is definitely not an old man yet.
2. the round was the final for Jiri Vesely. The only Czech representative in the match against Fucsovics crashed out at 3-6 4-5 and finished the tournament. The reason for his withdrawal was a back injury.
On the other hand, the women’s favourites did not fare so well and for many of them the 2nd round became fatal.
The match between Azarenka and Cirstea promised to be an interesting spectacle. This clash was surprisingly even. The Romanian even took the 1st set and put the favourite under pressure.
Azarenka picked herself up, won the 2nd set and this battle was to be decided in the final set. In it, the Belarusian pulled the long end, but only for a while. At 3-1, Cirstea breathed a big change of heart.
