The second round of the Premier League offered much more curiosity than the first round. There were three completely unnecessary red cards, a mockery of Manchester United and Nottingham’s first league goal of the century. What can’t you miss?

The Red Devils blunder

The home loss to Brighton was an unexpected and cruel slap in the face, but the 0:4 debacle at Brentford was K.O. What’s more, the home side scored all their goals in the first half. There were several reasons for the shunt, one of them being the deployment of 175cm tall Lisandro Martinez at full-back.

Brentford took advantage of the height of the Ajax reinforcements, just like Brighton a week ago, and Ten Hag responded by making a substitution at half-time. But even so, Manchester did not take back the game, did not score a contact goal and are last in the table with a score of 1: 6.

Chelsea’s (ex)coaches clash

The London derby between Chelsea and Tottenham belonged to the home Blues for most of the time. The 2::2 draw hurt Chelsea all the more because its conceded goals probably shouldn’t have counted. The first for a foul on Kai Havertz, the second for Cristian Romero’s unsporting behaviour before a corner kick.

But the refereeing errors eventually fell behind the two coaches’ post-match spat. Visiting Antonio Conte was very much enjoying the derby, after all, he won the league title with Chelsea as coach. When he shook hands with Thomas Tuchel, the German coach pulled him close. He didn’t like the fact that Conte didn’t make eye contact when shaking hands. It was a melee and a red card for both.

Liverpool’s second loss

Liverpool is complicating its path to the league title, four points behind the main favourite Manchester City after two rounds. In Monday’s second-round match, they played 1-1 with Crystal Palace, as well as against Fulham in addition to tightening.

The key moment was a harsh, but in the first place unnecessary yellow card. Darwin Nunez’s nerves snapped and he headbutted Joachim Andersen. The Reds continued to have control of the ball, but were one player short in the final ten minutes.
