The former Real Madrid and Arsenal star is back on the scoring list. Mesut Özil hasn’t experienced the feeling of scoring a goal for almost a year and a half, but the new season at Fenerbahce has started well for him.
In the first round of the Turkish Super League, Fenerbahce faced Adana Demirspor and the fans saw only one goal. It was scored in the 46th minute by Mesut Özil, who tried what it feels like to score a goal for the first time in a long time.
It was also his first goal for Fenerbahce, where he moved to as a free agent in the winter. He played 10 games for the Turkish side last season, but was absent for almost 2 months due to an ankle injury.
Özil’s last goal came in February 2020. That time he hit the Newcastle net in a 4:0 win. In the end, it was his only goal that season and also his last for Arsenal.
After that, he wasn’t put on the Premier League roster by Mikel Arteta and he himself didn’t want to leave as he was receiving a huge salary, plus a fat loyalty bonus. So he just sat in the stands for the first half of the 2020/21 season, then left for Fenerbahce.
He spent 7 seasons at Arsenal, in the eighth he didn’t play in any competitive matches. Before his performances dropped considerably, he was one of the biggest stars of Arsenal and the whole Premier League.
