The duel between Krejcikova and Barty was the highlight of the women’s eight-final. A clash of 2 grand slam champions. The match was full of twists and turns, interesting exchanges and it certainly didn’t disappoint. The Aussie won 7-5, 6-3 to advance to the quarterfinals. Barbora Krejcikova’s 15-match winning streak is over.
The Czech tennis player entered the match better. She was more accurate, more active and took her opponent’s serve from the very beginning. Until the score was 4-2, everything was going her way. Then Barty’s big turn began.
The Australian first broke a break point and reduced it to 4-3. Then Krejcikova made several unnecessary errors and her opponent levelled at 4-4. This encouraged her and she started to outplay the Czech.
In the end of the set, the world number one dominated. At 5-4 she won a set point. Krejcikova was able to fight it off and level the set at 5-5. More set points came soon after. Barty used them this time and won the first set 7-5.
The second set was clearly in the hands of the Australian favourite. She could have taken her opponent’s serve at 1-0, but Krejcikova did not give up and leveled at 1-1. The players held serve until 3-2 in the second set.
Then Bartyova took the Czech’s serve and was close to advancing to the quarterfinals. However, Krejcikova fought back and took the lost serve back immediately. Unfortunately, she could not confirm the break and Barty served for the win.
The Rolland Garros champion won a break point, but this time Barty held on. She deservedly defeated Krejcikova 7-5, 6-3 to advance to the quarterfinals. There she will play the better of Raducanu/Tomljanovic.
