Tomas Vaclik has had a successful career. The now thirty-four year old goalkeeper won the title with Sparta, then headed to Basel and thanks to his excellent performances he was a regular in Seville for two years.
This was followed by a stint at Olympiakos and then a loan spell at Huddersfield, fulfilling his dream of playing in England. Now he is without a contract and is exploring possible options, with the closest being the possibility of catching in the American MLS.
The New England Revolution, the leading team in the Eastern Conference, are interested in him. According to The Athletic’ s sources, Vaclik should replace the current number one Djordje Petrovic.
The excellent performances of the 23-year-old Serbian have been noticed in the Premier League, specifically at Chelsea, which is expected to pay around $20 million for him, including bonuses.
He should fight for the number one position at the club with new signing Robert Sanchez, who played for Brighton last season. Chelsea’s number two is 20-year-old Finn Lucas Bergstrom.
But back to Vaclik. He is a free agent, so his only cost to his new club will be his wages. The MLS transfer window has already closed, but clubs can register free agents until 13 September.
And that is exactly what concerns the Czech goalkeeper, who is still trusted by national coach Jaroslav Šilhavy. As soon as he signs his contract, he can be registered and immediately start the match.
