Ferran Torres is Barcelona’s most expensive Spanish signing

The transfer of Ferran Torres has become a reality. On this occasion, it should be noted that the winger has become the most expensive Spanish reinforcement in the history of FC Barcelona. Although it has not yet been officially confirmed, media reports say that Barça paid 55 million euros for him plus ten in bonuses.

The second in line is David Villa, for whom Barcelona paid Valencia 40 million euros in 2010. El Guaje arrived at Camp Nou at the age of 28 and made history with achievements such as two goals in El Clásico or the goal in the Champions League final against Manchester United at Wembley.

The podium is rounded off by Cesc Fàbregas, for whom Arsenal received 34 million euros plus six million in bonuses. This transfer took place in 2011 and the Catalans paid such a high amount for their own youngster, who returned to the club after a few years. The midfielder, however, did not fare too well.

Interestingly, other players with a history at Valencia came in fourth and fifth. Paco Alcácer cost Barcelona 30 million euros in 2016, but he didn’t secure a permanent place in the squad due to the strong competition from Messi, Suárez and Neymar.

Midfielder Gerard López, on the other hand, joined the team from the Catalan capital in 2000 for 21.6 million euros. However, even he did not reach the level presented at the Mestalla.

If we take into account the transfers of players of all nationalities, Barcelona’s new acquisition ranks ninth in its history. Only two players under 21 have been bought for a higher amount, Ousmane Dembélé (105 + 40 million) and Neymar (officially 57 million).
