More big problems are rolling in for Barcelona. A week before the start of La Liga, it has only 13 players registered. The biggest problem is with Ilkay Gündogan, who could still leave Catalonia.

Barcelona will start their La Liga defence next Sunday. But the big question is what kind of lineup it will be. Because at the moment the management is solving a big problem.

According to the league’s official website, they currently have only 13 players registered. Namely Ter Stegen, Kounde, Christensen, Garcia, Pedri, Gavi, Kessie, De Jong, Ferran, Fati, Lewandowski, Dembélé and Raphinha.

Reinforcements like Gündogan, Martínez, Romeu or players who have signed new contracts, Araujo, Alonso and Roberto cannot be registered yet.

The biggest problem is with Ilkay Gündogan. The Manchester City captain came in as the most star name, only that his future in Catalonia is currently uncertain.

The German has in fact signed a contract with Barcelona on one condition. If he is not officially registered by August 12, his contract will be nullified and he will be able to go anywhere he wants for free until August 31.

Barcelona’s management are desperate to raise funds at any cost. They are pushing for the transfer of Ousmane Dembélé to PSG for 50 million euros. However, the club will only see €25 million of that amount, as the Frenchman has a contract that half of the transfer fee goes to him and his agent.

President Joan Laporta is thus expected to raise the funds through the sale of 16% of Barca Studios, for which he will collect €60 million. Whether this injection of money will be enough for the league management and, more importantly, whether everything will be done by next Saturday is still uncertain.
