It was only a matter of time before clubs spent €10 billion on transfers in one year. This threshold was broken on Friday, August 18th.

We had to wait until this year to break this threshold. Moreover, the transfer market is far from over, as we will certainly see a number of interesting transfers.

Meanwhile, in the already mentioned 2019, the clubs spent 9.97 billion euros and were thus as a whole one step away from the 10 billion mark, which was broken 4 years later.

Chelsea helped the most in this regard, buying players for 385 million euros. In their defence, it should be pointed out that they collected 255 million euros for the sale of players. So it is definitely not the club that is most in the red in terms of accounting.

Al-Hilal reigns supreme in this respect, having brought 13 players to Saudi Arabia for 289 million euros, including Neymar, Malcom, Ruben Neves, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Kalidou Koulibaly and Bono.

However, Premier League clubs were again big spenders, as apart from Chelsea, Arsenal spent €235 million, Tottenham €194 million, Manchester United €192 million and Newcastle United €153 million.

Only PSG managed to squeeze into the top seven, which includes 5 English teams, besides Al-Hilal, which spent 210 million euros, but also earned 141 million euros in departures.

Among the 25 highest spending teams we can find 4 teams from the Saudi Pro League. Moreover, if UEFA agrees to allow clubs from Saudi Arabia to participate in European cups, we can expect another upward trend.

It is also interesting to note that this transfer summer has been dominated by midfielders instead of strikers. The most expensive player is Declan Rice, for whom Arsenal spent just under €117 million, followed by Moisés Caicedo, who moved to Chelsea for €116 million, and Jude Bellingham, who was acquired by Real Madrid for €103 million.
