Marco Asensio has officially become the new signing of Paris Saint-Germain. The club from the French capital confirmed this on their website. Today, the former Real Madrid player has signed a three-year contract with the Parisian outfit.
The transfer of Asensio to Paris Saint-Germain has been known for several weeks, but now comes the official confirmation.
The Palma de Mallorca native’s contract expired at the end of June this year and he has not signed a new one in the Spanish capital.
As a free agent, he is moving to France, specifically to PSG, where he has signed a three-season contract until the end of June 2026.
As a Real joker, Asensio had a role in winning the Champions League in both 2017 and 2018, he was supposed to be Cristiano Ronaldo’s successor after his departure. But in the summer of 2019 he badly injured a ligament in his knee, from which he took a year to recover.
After returning from injury, he never got back to his old form and despite his great potential at Real, he never really transcended his role as a substitute.
“It’s an honour to be part of this great club. I look forward to joining my new teammates and working with them to achieve great goals,” Asensio said in an interview with the club’s website.
Asensio transferred to Real Madrid in the summer of 2015 from Mallorca, but settled permanently in the Spanish capital a year later. In fact, Real sent him on loan to Espanyol after his arrival.
Since then, however, he has played 286 games for the Spanish giant, scoring 61 goals and adding 32 assists. With Real, he won the Champions League trophy three times, three league titles and also won the UEFA Super Cup three times.
