PSG can breathe a sigh of relief for now. Lionel Messi is fine after horror surgery, but has a game against Brazil to play
The horror footage from that game has been all over the football world. During Argentina’s match against Venezuela, Lionel Messi was brutally fouled. But he eventually finished the game. And by all accounts, he’s actually quite healthy.

National team breaks are not usually a popular part of the season for clubs. This week was a great example of why that is.
At the weekend, Lionel Messi made his debut in a PSG jersey when he came on for the final half hour. If not for overwhelming luck, he could have waited many months for another start.
In fact, in Argentina’s match against Venezuela on Friday, a horrific and devastating tackle was committed on the Argentine star. Fouls like that can cause not only long-term injuries, but also the end of a career.
Messi, however, is a man of steel. In fact, he recovered from the tackle and played the entire match to the end. Fans rightly feared that perhaps the injury would manifest itself with less time.
According to Argentine coach Lionel Scaloni, Messi avoided injury: “We were scared, but fortunately he is fine.”
Argentina will face another World Cup qualifying match on Sunday evening. They will face Brazil, quite possibly with Messi in the line-up.
