It is already certain that Lionel Messi will play next season in a non-Barcelona jersey. The main candidates were PSG and Manchester City, the latter now out of the picture. But what would Messi’s arrival mean for the Parisian club?
It is already certain that Lionel Messi will play next season in a non-Barcelona jersey. The main candidates were PSG and Manchester City, the latter now out of the picture. But what would Messi’s arrival mean for the Parisian club? And most importantly, what would it mean for Mbappé?
Neymar has already offered Messi a number 10 and the world’s clubs are worried about the attacking trio of Neymar – Mbappé – Messi. But not everything may turn out so rosy, although PSG are showing huge interest in the Argentine magician and have immediately started negotiations.
PSG is going for Messi
Already on Wednesday after the announcement of the shocking news, PSG was in contact with Messi. It was checking details and quite possibly preparing an offer. Spanish journalist Josep Pedrerol had already reported at the time that Messi was very close to a transfer to PSG.
The day after, one of the most trusted journalists Fabrizio Romano – it should be noted that his latest information regarding Barcelona was not as accurate as we are used to with him (Messi’s contract – Wijnaldum), reported that PSG was confident after diligent negotiations.
In addition, Neymar should also help the transfer. The latter has reportedly offered him his jersey number. The swift progress of the negotiations has been confirmed by SkySports.
What would this mean for Mbappé?
But now to the other side of Messi’s potential arrival. Obviously, his arrival would be extremely financially challenging even for PSG. “Does signing Messi mean Mbappé’s departure? No,” Pochettino laughed at the press conference. But many journalists are not shaken by such optimism.
In fact, French news site RMC Sport has reported that PSG will have to sell if they want to bring in Messi. More Italian journalist Matteo Moretto weighed in. “I can’t confirm it, but if Messi comes to PSG, the player who will have to leave will be Mbappé.”
A new perspective was then provided by L’Equipe. It claims that it is a priority for PSG to sign Mbappé, not Messi. Another journalist, Santi Aouna, on the other hand, claims that the situation surrounding the two footballers is completely independent of each other.
This has been confirmed by one of France’s most famous journalists, Mohamed Bouhafsi. He also reported that Mbappé is currently not even in contact with Real Madrid.
