Jiří Procházka is recovering from a serious injury and his return to the cage is imminent. The experienced fighter has now outlined a date when we can look forward to it and also admitted that he overreacted with his earlier statement.
It’s been almost a year since Jiri Prochazka won the UFC championship. His last defeat came in December 2015, yet he is not the current holder.
That’s Jamahal Hill, who made the most of his opportunity. That’s because Procházka was injured before his rematch with Glover Teixeira, and the UFC decided they didn’t want to stop the division.
Magomed Ankalaev and Jan Blachowicz fought for the belt first, and when the fight ended in a draw, an outraged Dana White gave the belt to Teixeira and Hill.
And it is the latter that Prochazka should face once he is fully 100% fit. And when will that be? Prochazka outlined the date and admitted that he miscalculated the first time.
“I used to want to fight six months after the operation, but I recognized that it was bullshit. I want to give my body room to accept the new things I’m working on.
To get it into my bones and into my DNA that it’s going to be natural to it. Possible fight date looks like August, September or October. It will be in one of those three months, depending on the gala.
I just don’t want to be at full strength, but I want to take the next step in my journey. It’s all about the performance, so I want to show something that my opponents haven’t seen before,” he told TN.cz in an interview.
So there should already be some negotiations about the date, and we should hear more from the UFC itself soon. Can Prochazka take his belt back or will he taste the taste of defeat after almost eight years?
