Lisandro Martínez suffered a fractured humerus in Thursday’s Europa League match against Sevilla (2: 2) and, according to the latest information, this season, which he had a very good run in Manchester as a summer signing from Ajax Amsterdam, is unfortunately over for him.

In the same game, Raphaël Varane, another of Ten Hag’s favourite stoppers, was substituted after half-time and the club has not yet specified his injury, only stating that the French international will be out for a few weeks.

However, the footballer himself admitted that due to the fact that this is his multiple injury in recent years, he is already slowly starting to entertain thoughts of ending his career.

“It’s thelogical outcome of all this. I’m approaching30 and you start to think about it a little differently,” he told GQ France.

“I’ve been playing football since I was seven years old, I’ve fallen in love with it, but at the same time I feel that my body is no longer able to cope with the strain. I will finish my career either here in Manchester or in Lens. When will that be? We will see,” said Varane.

It’s a difficult time for Ten Hague. He’ll have to rely on the suspended captain Harry Maguire and substitute Victor Lindelöf in defence.

In addition, Luke Shaw and Scott McTominay, two players who could eventually play at stopper, are on the sidelines.
