- Robert Lewandowski scored the only goal of the game and continues his great form
- Barcelona dominate La Liga with seven wins and an unbeaten run
- Getafe failed to break down Barcelona’s defence despite several chances
In a La Liga match played on 25 September 2024, Barcelona won against Getafe by a narrow margin of 1: 0 and continue to maintain their perfect record this season. After seven matches played, the Catalan giant’s team remains unbeaten and at the top of the table with full points.
Barcelona’s performance was once again very dominant, although the result was nowhere near the more significant victories that its fans are used to.
The match was decided by a single goal from the Polish striker
Robert Lewandowski scored the only goal of the match, his seventh of the season. The Polish striker scored after a beautiful action and confirmed his role as the team’s leading scorer. Under the guidance of coach Hans Flick, Lewandowski has once again hit the ground running, giving Barcelona a solid attacking advantage in every game.
Getafe, currently at the bottom of the table, came in with the aim of defending against a favoured opponent. Although their defence put in a solid performance, the team failed to threaten the opposition’s goal enough in attack. A few opportunities did arise, but Barcelona’s defence, led by Inaki Pena, dealt with every threat.
During the match, Barcelona once again showed why it is considered one of the most dominant teams in world football. With almost 70% ball possession, they dictated the pace of the match and controlled the game. Despite this, their attack was not as productive as one would expect and the game remained open until the end.
Getafe concentrated on defensive work and although they eventually capitulated, their performance was admirable. The opponent tried to take every opportunity to counter-attack but failed to create enough dangerous chances.
Flick’s leadership brings stability
Under new coach Hans Flick, Barcelona seem to be on the right path to success. He has become only the third coach in the club’s history to win his first seven La Liga games. His arrival has meant a fresh impetus for the team, which is reflected not only in the number of goals scored but also in the solid defensive performance.
La Liga table after round 7
Barcelona are currently top of La Liga with a full 21 points, followed by Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao. Getafe, on the other hand, remain at the bottom of the table, still trying to get their first win.
Barcelona will want to continue their winning run in the next few games, while Getafe must start picking up points if they want to stay in the top Spanish league. The match thus produced the expected result, but also showed that even teams from the lower reaches of the table can be dangerous.
