Manchester City managed to win the 35th round of the Premier League on Sunday, winning 2: 0 at Nottingham. The home side had chances to win the match, but they paid primarily for the unproductive striker Chris Woods. Kevin De Bruyne directed the Citizens’ victory.
In the first minute, home defender Neco Williams got a shot off, but his attempt was stopped by the Citizens’ defense. In the ninth minute, Kevin De Bruyne tried his luck on the other side, but Matz Selz knocked his shot away for a corner.
Two minutes later, Morgan Gibbs-White tried his luck from a direct kick, but just missed Ederson’s goal. An intense opening quarter of an hour continued with Jeremy Doku’s attempt off target and Ederson’s intervention against Williams.
The inaccurate shots continued, with only De Bruyne heading against the wall from a direct kick, Chris Wood headed over on the second. By the 32nd minute the visitors were celebrating, with a header from stopper Josko Gvardiol following a corner.
Wood could have replied six minutes later, this time shooting with his foot, but again inaccurately. Murillo was much closer to the goal in the setup, but he hit the crossbar and the Citizens went into the cabinet with a 1:0 lead.
Right after the change of sides Wood continued to create chances, his shot from the small area was kicked out by a defender. In the 68th minute, De Bruyne shot on the other side, but Selz pulled the ball out for a corner kick.
Three minutes later, he just watched helplessly. After a pass from De Bruyne, Erling Haaland, who was on the substitute’s side, cleared the ball into the net. Nottingham had only one chance after that, but Callum Hudson Odoi was saved by Stefan Ortega, who replaced the injured Ederson at half-time.
Manchester City defeated Nottingham 2-0 and are now a point behind first-placed Arsenal. Nottingham are only a point above the relegation zone.
