Where to watch Iga Swiatek vs Maria Sakkari?
The very prestigious tournament in Indian Wells is traditionally very strong. This year was no different and the final will feature two players from the elite ten of the WTA rankings. Will the world number one claim her second title of the year, or will we see a surprise? The match will start on Sunday 17 March at 19:00 CET.
Swiatek unbeaten, Sakkari back on a winning streak
Iga Swiatek is aiming for her second title of the year on American concrete. The first one was in Dubai, where she defeated Elena Rybakina in the final after 7:6 and 6:2. She hasn’t lost a set in Indian Wells so far.
However, everything could have been different if Linda Noskova had been able to convert the offered break points into a 5:2 lead. But that didn’t happen and the Pole avenged the defeat of the Czech tennis player from the Australian Open. Subsequently, she also defeated Putintseva and Kostyukova.
Maria Sakkari had a terrible start to the calendar year 2024. If we do not count the matches at the United Cup, she had a record of two wins and four losses before the start of the tournament in Indian Wells.
She had already beaten five opponents in her first WTA 1000 tournament of the year, two of them playing at home. On four occasions, the advancing players had to be decided in the third set, but Sakkari seems to be in a good physical condition.
Betting tip – Sakkari to win at least 6 games
The players have faced each other five times in the past, three of which were won by the 28-year-old Greek. If she builds on her semi-final performance against Gauff, she could think about success. The final is certainly not expected to be a clear-cut affair.
