Who is strengthening the best in the Premier League? So far it looks like a Premier League newcomer

The transfer window is in full swing and while some Premier League clubs are faltering in the market, others are not slacking off with their reinforcements. But does spending big still mean spending well? So who is spending the best?

The winner of the transfer window in England in its early stages would probably be considered by most fans to be Tottenham Hotspur. And although the Roosters are strengthening appreciably and buying quality players, the question is whether they are strengthening their starting eleven or rather the squad overall.

Richarlison, Bissouma or even Lenglet certainly have strong competition and will not be easy to deprive of their places. However, Conte will certainly benefit from the opportunities that the arrivals of these and other players open up.

However, Spurs have another problem alongside this – in order to move up the table somehow and judge next season in terms of league position as progress and success, they have to cross a hell of a gap. They won’t fill that in one transfer window no matter who they bring in. They are hunting after all, outside of Chelsea, the incredibly strong Liverpool and Manchester City.

A club that doesn’t have a similar handicap and is strengthening itself appreciably is Nottingham Forest. Their season will be judged simply:: saved/relegated. And they’re already taking baby steps towards salvation in the transfer window.

They’re bringing in the perfect players for their 5-3-2. Awoniyi has excelled on the counter attacks that Forest will probably be forced to play. Omar Richards is an incredibly quality left back who can do a lot going forward, which Nottingham need due to the lack of traditional wingers in their formation, and also quite confident going backwards.

They have secured their right-back pairing with Neco Williams and Giulian Biancone. Both young players with significant potential. Even if one of them fails, they still have that key position insured by the other.

For tenacious, direct football, they also brought in the ideal stopper. Moussa Niakhate playing a pretty similar style of football at Mainz. A very strong central defender on the ball, he could be the one to find the aforementioned teammates in the build-up with long balls. Dean Henderson needs no introduction as a reinforcement in goal.

Nottingham Forest clearly know exactly what they need and are acting accordingly. They are strengthening a lot and we have plenty of indications to say they are strengthening well too. Their actions in the transfer market certainly shouldn’t escape the spotlight, mainly focused on the big six clubs.
